Dr Wolf Klinz MEP visits Guernsey and Jersey

Dr Wolf Klinz MEP, a senior member of the European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and substitute member of the Special Committee on Organised Crime, Corruption and Money Laundering, visited the Channel Islands on 6-7 June. In a series of positive meetings in both Guernsey and Jersey Dr Klinz discussed a wide range of important issues with Ministers, senior officials, and representatives from industry including: the contribution the Channel Islands make to the wider EU economy, cooperation between the CI and the EU in combatting financial crime, exchanging information between tax authorities, and ensuring high standards of regulation of the financial services sector. The visit was the first time that an MEP had visited the Channel Islands in an official capacity and marked an important milestone for the work CIBO has been doing to develop engagement with the European Parliament.  Commenting on his visit, Dr Klinz said “the business model Guernsey and Jersey follow is not based on any tax alleviation. They are not encouraging tax fraud or tax avoidance, but doing everything so that every tax that has to be paid is being paid.”
