The Channel Islands Brussels Office attended the public debriefing held by the Body of European Regulators of Electronic Communications (“BEREC”) in Brussels on 1 March. The purpose of the meeting was to give an update on the issues considered by BEREC at their plenary meeting held in Vienna on 23 and 24 February 2012. At the meeting it was confirmed that the core themes in BEREC’s future work programmes will include promoting next generation networks, consumer empowerment, European roaming and the single market in electronic communication services. The regulatory frameworks for telecoms in Jersey and Guernsey are supervised by the independent Channel Islands Competition and Regulatory Authorities (CICRA) http://www.cicra.gg/index.aspx. CICRA contributes to the work of BEREC via the UK regulator Ofcom.
