Linda Lowseck, States Veterinary Officer in Jersey, attended an important scientific conference organised by the European Commission on 2 April on the management of the Schmallenberg virus. This virus affects sheep cattle and goats. It emerged in Germany and the Netherlands in late 2011 and has now been confirmed in 8 Member States including UK and France. There have been confirmed cases in Jersey. The objective of the Seminar was to present the current state of play on the latest scientific data on Schmallenberg virus and the risk management approach taken by the EU.
